Why should I perform with The Sun Devils rather than a DCI junior corps like Teal Sound, Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, or the Cadets? Primarily, performing in a DCI corps usually comes at a very high cost. Most member tuition amounts are near $2000 for a season, compared to our current $800. The junior corps tour is FAR more extensive than ours, but then that brings up another point - time commitment. A lot of people do not have the ability to commit their entire summer to drum corps, especially high school students and on the go business professionals.
THE SUN DEVILS offer a drum corps experience at a far less-expensive price. Our rehearsal schedule is on a regular every other weekend rotation until the summer where we will go to more scheduled weekends depending on the contest schedule. Please check the calendar on the main site for schedule updates. With our rehearsal schedule, you still maintain a quality of life with friends, family, and work. We are ALL AGE!
If you aged out of junior corps…YOU CAN MARCH If you want to get your feet wet in drum corps…YOU CAN MARCH! If you have not played in years…YOU CAN MARCH!
Do I have to audition to be in THE SUN DEVILS? THE SUN DEVILS do not require an audition to become a member of the corps. However, your performance abilities will be evaluated by your caption head and will be slotted in the section accordingly. No worries, you will have a spot with The Sun Devils.
How much does this all cost? Our annual member tuition is $800. There are additional financial commitments, such as fundraising and a few travel costs, but it's a very inexpensive organization overall. With your member tuition, we provide transportation to all out-of-town shows, uniforms, instruments, and instruction.
You will be responsible only for your transportation to and from rehearsals, food, uniform shoes, gauntlets, food during trips, and about $100 worth of hotel costs when we go to the DCA World Championships (based on a four person per room occupancy for four nights).
I am a parent - will my child be safe at THE SUN DEVILS? Your child/student will be in a scholastic environment at all times. We have ZERO tolerance policies pertaining to the use of alcohol or other substances and we do not allow inappropriate relationships between members under the age of 18 and over the age of 20. There are several high school band directors in the organization as well as parents and responsible adult members. We are ALWAYS available for parent conference if needed and your child can always approach a staff or management team member should he/she feel the need to!
