John M. Johnson, widely known as “JJ”, will continue his role as Drum Major and visual tech for the Sun Devils. JJ is an alumnus of the 7-time Bands of America champion, Marian Catholic High School. After graduating from Marian, JJ attended Northern Illinois University. While at NIU, JJ served as the Head Marching Instructor, clarinet section leader, band council, 5-time rank leader, and undergrad assistant. Although working with many roles within the Huskie band, JJ managed to garner a few accolades such as: Rookie of the Year, 2-time Marching Huskie of the Year, Director’s Award, and 5-time Outstanding music and marching. After graduating from NIU and moving to Orlando, JJ joined Heat Wave Drum and Bugle Corps in 2000. JJ was a member of Heat Wave from 2000-2007. While at Heat Wave JJ’s push for musical excellence did not stop. JJ garnered another Rookie of the Year award, this time from Heat Wave. During his time in Heat Wave, JJ filled many roles: Soprano, Mellophone, visual tech, web master, Assistant Drum Major, Drum Major, and finally Executive Director.
Additionally, JJ has worked as a woodwind / visual tech for Boone, University, and currently Poinciana High School Marching Bands. JJ is also a member of the Orlando Concert Band.
JJ is currently employed with ACS working as an IT Project Manager. |
